Event: The Pulse Project Vol. 3

Hello, my fellow WMM-ers!

The third installation of The Pulse Project took place on 9th October 2014 at The Pound Bar in TTDI.

Created by Pulse Soundworks and Seema Subash Omnimedia, The Pulse Project provides a platform for local musical artistes to showcase their talents, and to spread awareness of such talents. Hosted by The Pound Bar, this event takes place on the second Thursday of every month.

The Pulse Project Vol. 3 showcased the following:
  • Carolyn Park
  • Natasha De Alwis
  • Shaneil Devaser
  • Armon

Truth be told, having never heard of Carolyn Park, Natasha De Alwis, and Shaneil Devaser, I didn't know what to expect. For me, it was merely a nice evening out with a friend to unwind and de-stress after a long day at work.

Carolyn Park (accompanied by Adrian Lim and Pan Jo-vi)

Not just a pretty face, Carolyn is the lead singer of the band called Amoura. Amoura is an R&B and rock band with its members hailing from South Korea and Kuala Lumpur. The band has 5 members, but only 3 performed for the event.

Armed with talent and the drive to entertain the crowd, their music soothed and relaxed us while we sat in comfort and enjoyed the ambience of The Pound Bar.

Clockwise: Carolyn Park, Adrian Lim, Pan Jo-vi, Group Shot

Natasha De Alwis (accompanied by Moses)

Natasha and Moses displayed true courage as this was their very first time performing on stage. I think they're really brave; it's certainly no easy task getting on stage in front of a crowd of people staring at you! Hats off to them both for such bravery! And an awesome crowd that night for your support and encouragement!

Natasha started off on a nervous note, but as she progressed through the set, her nerves were more calm as the duo entertained us with their set.

L - R: Moses and Natasha De Alwis

Shaneil Devaser

Dayum. This guy is one to look out for. For reals, people.

Shaneil is from the band The Endleaves, and performs with Riz Rashid, who was one of the talents for The Pulse Project Vol. 2

The Endleaves comprises of Shaneil Devaser on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Riz Rashid on lead guitar and backing vocals, Krist Chong on bass, and Rashaad Ali on drums.

While Shaneil has a good voice projection and vocals, what stood out about his performance was the intensity of his soulfulness. Definite 'layan' factor here, for all you rock and music lovers! You'd need to watch him live to know what I mean; his performance definitely got my full attention. I'd recommend also listening carefully to the lyrics of the songs he plays as they stir your imagination.

Shaneil Devaser

Armon, Psytrus, and Adam Izzy (The Pulse Family)

For the last installment of The Pulse Project, Adam Izzy was helping Armon and Psytrus with back-up vocals.
This time around though, he showcased not only his entertaining side with his rather cute antics on stage, but also his surprisingly-talented vocals when he opened their act singing. This guy can really sing!

The trio had a special song lined up to celebrate John Lennon's birthday, which fell on the same day. Their cover of the classic song, Imagine, was executed effortlessly and smoothly.

Never a dull performance with these guys from The Pulse Family. A must-watch act indeed!

Hmmm... I wonder if Adam Izzy will perform again for the next installation? *crossing fingers*

Clockwise: Armon, Adam Izzy, and Psytrus

Personally, I'd like to see more installments of The Pulse Project. Not only does this platform showcase the many different talents in the music scene, but it's also been a pleasant surprise for me each time - I never know which type of music I'll be entertained with!

A special thanks to The Pound Bar for being an amazing host in supporting local music and performers. The outlet has opened its door to providing more opportunities for our fellow local artistes.

By the by, since The Pulse Project Vol. 2, Riz Rashid and Brendan de Cruz now perform at The Pound Bar on Wednesdays. Woohoo! Bring the house down, gentlemen! ;)

I'd like to end this Blog post with a special shout out to Laveenia Theertha Pathy, the photographer for the past two events. Her photos capture the moments and soul of the performers. Well done and keep up the good work, Laveenia! :)

Event: The Pulse Project Vol. 2

Hello, my fellow WMM-ers!

The Pulse Project Vol. 2 happened last month at The Pound Bar in TTDI. I've been so wrapped up with work these past several weeks that I almost missed writing this.

The Pulse Project Vol. 2 showcased 4 seriously talented local artistes:
  • Riz Rashid
  • Fabian Mark Peter
  • Brendan de Cruz
  • Armon
I had the pleasure yet again of hosting the event for the night. Needless to say, I had a blast and it was a fun night!

Yours Truly ;)

And now about the stars of the event...

Riz Rashid

Is from a band called The Endleaves, and he has been in this industry for over 15 years. Not only does he rock the stage with his vocals, but he is also a songwriter and plays the acoustic and electric guitar.

L - R: Krist Chong and Riz Rashid

Fabian Mark Peter

A Sports Journalist with New Straits Times by day; performer by night. Fabian has been in the music scene for about 4 years, is a songwriter, and has been playing the guitar since he was 16 years old. Watching him strum the guitar and singing for the crowd clearly shows his passion for music.

Fabian Mark Peter

Brendan de Cruz

Jack Johnson meets Jason Mraz. Brendan's personalised twist on music makes his cover songs unique and unpredictable, yet comfortingly familiar at the same time. A must-watch-live performance when you can, people!

Brendan de Cruz

Armon

This guy is on fire each time he steps onto the stage - there's just no stopping him! Full of energy and pumping with adrenaline, Armon is sure to make your night memorable. Catch him live when you can, folks. You won't regret it!

L - R: Adam Izzy, Armon, and Psytrus

As with any good night, a group shot is a must. ;) Thank you, The Pound Bar, Pulse Soundworks, and Seema Subash for yet another awesome night!

L - R: Armon, Fabian Mark Peter, Krist Chong, Lil' Missy, Riz Rashid,
Seema Subash, Brendan de Cruz, Psytrus, Rishi Vetti, and Adam Izzy

Event: MUSE by Watsons - CLIV

Hello, WMM-ers!

Thanks to The Butterfly Project, I had the pleasure of attending a skin-care event last month.
The event was to introduce the 10-Step Korean Skin-Care Regime to achieving a healthy and flawless complexion.

MUSE by Watsons is a premium beauty retail brand established by Watsons Personal Care Stores Sdn Bhd., and is the first in the region. The store houses 12 exclusive brands and cosmetic products for both women and men of all ages.

My first impression of the outlet was very good. The products were organised and displayed well, and the store was well lit. It had a nice, clean feel to the place.

MUSE By Watsons from The Outside

MUSE by Watsons on The Inside

MUSE by Watsons on The Inside

They even have nail-colour services for customers!

After I made my round checking out all the products, I was shown to a table with a laptop, where a Consultant offered to perform a skin analysis for me. A.. a skin-care analysis? Like, right now, right here? Good God, I wasn't prepared for this.. And in front of a group of several curious beauty Bloggers staring right at me! *lol* I sucked up my courage and dived right into it!

Yep, that's me during the skin analysis.

Shortly after the analysis began, the Consultant could immediately tell that I have a regular skin-care regime that includes exfoliation. That's right, yo! He then proceeds to advice me that a few small areas on my face are a bit dry and that I'm probably in air-conditioned environments a lot. Guilty as charged!

The Consultant was professional and knew what he was talking about. I'll spare you the lengthy details and jump into the end of the analysis: all in all, I have good skin, and need to hydrate my face more. Yayy!! All my efforts are not in vain! Though I do need to keep my skin hydrated.

I'm not one who's easily impressed by how well Sales Assistants or Consultants introduce products; instead, it's how good their knowledge is when answering my questions. And I ask a LOT of questions! I'm sure you'd be very happy to know that the skin analysis is available for all customers. ;)

Us Bloggers were shown to our seats for an educational presentation by Amanda Gan, the Brand Manager for MUSE by Watsons. Amanda presented the 10-Step Korean Skin-Care Regime well.

The lovely Amanda Gan herself.

I know that 10 steps seem like a lot, but if you take a minute to think about how many skin-care and cosmetic products we apply on our skin daily, the number of steps may then make sense. Personally, my daily skin-care regime consists of 7 - 8 steps. Yep, true story.

Used together with MUSE by Watsons products, these 10 steps claim to help you achieve a radiant, bright, healthy, and dewy complexion:

Step 01: Pre-Cleanse
Gently remove all make up and any impurities on the face.

Step 02: Cleansing
Think of this as double cleansing to remove excess traces of make up or dirt. It's recommended to massage your face in upward, circular motions to increase blood circulation, leading to a brighter complexion.

This Pore Cleansing Brush was used during the demonstration,
and is said to be a best seller because of its effectiveness.

Step 03: Exfoliation
Exfoliate with a facial scrub once or twice a week to remove dead skin.

Step 04: Refresh
Using a toner balances and restores skin's pH for better penetration of products. Additionally, a toner can help to tighten pores.

Step 05: Essence
This is an important step in Korean skin-care regime as it nourishes skin for cellular renewal process, which helps skin's elasticity, firmness, and brightening of complexion.

Step 06: Ampoule
Ampoules consist of small molecules and concentrated active ingredients, which are effective for penetrating deeper into skin. It helps combat ageing and pigmentation.

Step 07: Sheet Mask
Applied twice a week, this Mask encourages skin to absorb nutrients while providing intensive hydration.

Step 08: Eye Cream
Also an important step in a skin-care regime, an eye cream helps to treat or prevent lines, wrinkles, and dehydration.

Step 09: Moisturiser
Replenishes skin's hydration and seals it in with a lightweight emulsion. Best to use fingertips to massage the face and neck to promote blood circulation.

Step 10: Night Cream
Applied at night to lock in the nutrients from the previous steps.
For use during the day, replace the night cream with a daytime moisturiser and sunblock or BB/CC cream.

These were the products used for the demonstration of the 10-Step Korean Skin-Care Regime:

We ended the event with a group shot of everyone who attended. It was a fun and educational experience. Thank you, The Butterfly Project and MUSE by Watsons! :)

Since my skin needs hydration, I used the Cremorlab Mineral Treatment Essence, Cremorlab Fresh Water Gel, and CLIV Mediclear Serum for 2 weeks as part of my personal skin-care regime. All 3 products are from the store.

Based on how my skin feels and looks, I'm definitely liking these products so far! I'm a huge Olay fan, and it may be premature to say for sure... but I dare say that these products may soon replace my Olay ones. Look out for my product reviews on them in time to come. ;)

Until my next update soon... always smile and be beautiful inside out! :) xoxo

Event: The Pulse Project Vol. 1

Hello, my musical friends!

Last month I was invited to attend The Pulse Project Vol. 1, which was held at The Pound Bar in TTDI.

Let me tell you about the event and performers. Read on, amigos. ;)

Pulse Soundworks - a local record label, digital distribution platform, and recording studio - together with Seema Subash created the concept of showcasing up-and-coming talents through this platform. Having spent countless days and nights on this concept, The Pulse Project was born!

The Pound Bar is known for supporting local talents, and they graciously hosted the event featuring 4 of the youngest and brightest talents:
  • Hameer Zawawi
  • Priscillia Xavier
  • Madan Psytrus
  • Armon

I was invited to host the event for the night. To have been part of this platform to help support local talents was amazing! Thank you to Pulse Soundworks, Seema, and The Pound Bar for the opportunity! :)

Yours Truly Hosting The Event

Hameer Zawawi

Hameer Zawawi

Priscillia Xavier

This is one sweet girl with a lovely personality. She has been in the music industry for about 4 years. She's played guitar since she was 12 years old and writes her own songs. This girl gets totally hyped on coffee. She expresses herself through music, and hopes that people can relate to her songs. Boy, does she have a sultry voice!

Priscillia Xavier

Madan Psytrus

CEO and Founder of Pulse Soundworks. He has been in the industry for 7 years, and has been active in the scene with local bands and artistes. He's a very nice and pleasant guy who loves wearing t-shirts. This guy's very talented - put him on stage with his guitar and he'll blow your mind away!

Madan Psytrus

Armon

Rapper, Singer, Songwriter, Emcee - these sum up Armon in a nutshell. He's been in the music industry for 7 years now. He released his first single, Silverline, on 14th February this year in conjunction with Valentine's Day. He just completed shooting the video for his second single, Silence Is A Mindset, which will be released soon. Also, his debut album is slated to be released in early 2015. Watching him perform live is a promise of full-blown energy! There's no way you won't sing along, tap your feet, and clap your hands along to his performances.

Amante Nail Spa & Body Care: Charity Fair

Hello, my beautiful friends!

Who says that beauty is only skin deep? Amante Nail Spa & Body Care, a superlative spa for women housing popular beauty and wellness needs, is proving that there is more to beauty than meets the eye.

They will be hosting a one-day Charity Fair on 7 September 2014 from 10 AM to 6 PM. In conjunction with this fair, customers can purchase the Amante Charity Coupon Booklet for RM 35 each. The booklet contains 7 x RM 5 cash vouchers that you can use to purchase spa treatments, and for food, activities, and games at Amante Charity Fair. There's also a BONUS thank you RM 88 Hot Stone Massage treatment!

Amante Charity Coupon Booklet on Sale for RM 35 Each

Proceeds from the Amante Charity Fair will be donated to Good Samaritan Home. It's a home for children in Malaysia. Amante believes that by helping to raise funds for this home, it would make learning possible for students of all ages, from pre-school to graduate school, providing basic education to those who need it most.

Good Samaritan Home is a non-profit charitable children’s home committed to serve the poor and needy children in our society. Their aim is to provide for the physical, spiritual, and educational well being of the children. The home started operating in January 1999 with just one child and currently has 32 resident children and another 30 children in the Extension Program.

Good Samaritan Home

I'd like to share with you a few photos of the children and their life stories.

These 4 boys came to the home 6 years ago. James and Thomas are now in a special school as their parents had lots of problem and the boys were left without proper food. In fact, James was locked up in his room for more than 7 months. This has effected them, and it was a challenge for the staff of the Home.

Gideon and Philip had no direction and discipline, and they became very difficult boys. Gideon lost both of his parents and had no interest in studies; Philip lost his dad and was placed from house to house.

With proper nutrition, a home-like environment, love, and guidance, they are picking up well. Philip received his results for UPSR, and he scored 3As and 4Bs. He has done very well given the fact that he came from such a troubling background.

Handsome Young Boys Getting Ready for Church on A Sunday Morning

College boys can be quite difficult to work with, at least from the Home's point of view. Reuben graduated as a Male Nurse on 23 November 2013, and got a job at Khoo Teck Huat Hospital.

He came to the home at the age of 7 and was a playful boy. He lost his dad when he was very young. Like other underprivileged children, he moved from one place to another.

Every child needs love and care regardless of their backgrounds and ages.
This is what Good Samaritan Home does for underprivileged children.

Seeing all theses boys sleeping together, calling each other "brother" is an inspiration to the Home. It has been their desire when they set up Good Samaritan Home to let these children have another family.

Daniel came to the home at the age of 6, and had a single mother. Now at the age of 21, he is doing his final year in Culinary Arts. He act as a big brother to all the children and they all call him "koko" (it means big brother in Cantonese). He acts as their big brother, helping them with their home work, showing them how things are done etc. His actions have inspired and motivated other boys and girls to feel at home.

Boys Together at Home

I'd like to invite you to join them on 7 September 2014 from 10 AM to 6 PM at Amante Kota Damansara to show your support for these amazing young children and to Good Samaritan Home.

The help that they have been receiving from donors and kind-hearted people have given them new hope. It will not be possible for the children to have a good environment, love, nutrition, and education without this help.

Here's how you can help:

1. Purchase the Amante Charity Voucher Booklet for RM 35 from the nearest Amante outlet. Visit www.amante.my for a list of locations near you.

2. Don’t have time? You can transfer/bank in to Amante Beauty Care Sdn Bhd (Maybank Account No: 512491131743). Send your transfer note/bank-in slip to amantecharity@gmail.com with your name, email address, and mobile number. You can collect your Amante Charity Coupon Booklet on 7 September 2014 at Amante Charity Fair.

Fund-Raising Event: Pawse for A Cause

Hey, everyone!

This is one important event that I would really like to share with all of you, and I sincerely hope that you'll make some time to read this. It’s one that depicts love, generousity, and selflessness for animals.

The Pound Bar in TTDI recently held a charity drive as part of a birthday celebration for, Seema Subash, a friend of theirs. This was a special celebration unlike any other.. Seema is a through and through animal lover who decided to share her special day by giving back to animals.

In collaboration with The Pound Bar, Pawse for A Cause was carefully organised bringing together people who care about Animal Rights and Welfare.

Everyone had to bring a gift – not for the birthday girl, though. Instead, the gifts were specifically for animals, to be donated to them.

Some of the gifts to be donated. Thank you, kind donors!!

On top of that, the guests were encouraged to bring along their small- to medium-size furbabies!

Look at all the happy faces! So much love and joy! :D

Can you guess which one is the mascot? ;)
Doggy overload and so much love to go around for and from them!

Spot the mascot with her dashing co-owner! :)

It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G to have and play with so many beautiful dogs that evening. You rock, The Pound Bar!

2 animal welfare organisations were selected as the recipients of proceeds from the event:

The first is Cherishlife Home. They rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs. They also educate the public on the importance of animal welfare and spearhead their TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) programme.

The second is Dog House PJ. They rescue, foster, and rehome abandoned dogs, and focus on giving them a second chance with new families.

To make the celebration more fun-filled, there was a brilliant line up of live performances by some of our seriously talented local artistes. Thank you, kind Sirs!! You guys left me in awe.

Clockwise from Top Left: Psytrus, Nigesh Armon & Sashi C. Loco, Russell Curtis, Christian Theseira, and Jay Walia

We also had the pleasure of having 2 established deejays spin catchy dance music throughout. Wicked music, gentlemen!! You made me dance again, and I enjoyed every bit of it!

From Left to Right: DJ Jazz and DJ Bernie

Also supporting the cause was Thanuja Ananthan (Miss World Malaysia 09/10, International Model, TV Host, Actress, and Animal Ambassador - PETA). She has a genuine love for animals, is very talented, beautiful, and VERY tall!

From Left to Right:
Seema (the birthday girl), Thanuja Ananthan, and

Rishi Rajavetti (the owner of The Pound Bar)

I’d like to thank The Pound Bar for giving me the opportunity to emcee this wonderful event!

That's me on stage with my biggest fans right in front!

Aunty Winnie from Cherishlife Home took the stage to briefly explain what the home is about and what they do to help rescued animals. Thank you, Aunty Winnie, for helping us understand better about the shelter, and how so many animals out there need our help. It’s very sad how some of these animals were mistreated and abused by their owners. :’(

This is Aunty Winnie. She's such a lovely and caring lady!

The Pound Bar managed to raise.. *drumroll, please*.. over RM 1000 in cash and RM 6000 in dog supplies (food, medication, pet supplies etc.)!! WELL DONE!!!

Top: Aunty Winnie is all smiles with the gifts for the animals!

Bottom: Rishi (owner of The Pound Bar) and Seema presenting the cheque to Aunty Winnie when they visited Cherishlife Home.

All in all, it was a very successful and memorable charity drive. What really touched me was that there were so many people who came to support the cause and made generous donations - all for the love of animals. Thank you to each and every one of you who supported the cause!

A little goes a very long way, and animals need our love and care too. Together, we can all make a significant difference.

The very act of supporting this cause, helping to organise, and hosting it puts The Pound Bar at the top of my list for must-visit pub/restaurant!

Do check them out, and let them know that Lil' Missy sent you their way with hugs and kisses. xoxo

For more details, please visit their Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/ThePoundBar

To all the kind people out there, you're welcome to drop off supplies and donations for animals at The Pound Bar. They will ensure that your kind gestures are delivered safely to the homes.
