Event: The Pulse Project Vol. 3

Hello, my fellow WMM-ers!

The third installation of The Pulse Project took place on 9th October 2014 at The Pound Bar in TTDI.

Created by Pulse Soundworks and Seema Subash Omnimedia, The Pulse Project provides a platform for local musical artistes to showcase their talents, and to spread awareness of such talents. Hosted by The Pound Bar, this event takes place on the second Thursday of every month.

The Pulse Project Vol. 3 showcased the following:
  • Carolyn Park
  • Natasha De Alwis
  • Shaneil Devaser
  • Armon

Truth be told, having never heard of Carolyn Park, Natasha De Alwis, and Shaneil Devaser, I didn't know what to expect. For me, it was merely a nice evening out with a friend to unwind and de-stress after a long day at work.

Carolyn Park (accompanied by Adrian Lim and Pan Jo-vi)

Not just a pretty face, Carolyn is the lead singer of the band called Amoura. Amoura is an R&B and rock band with its members hailing from South Korea and Kuala Lumpur. The band has 5 members, but only 3 performed for the event.

Armed with talent and the drive to entertain the crowd, their music soothed and relaxed us while we sat in comfort and enjoyed the ambience of The Pound Bar.

Clockwise: Carolyn Park, Adrian Lim, Pan Jo-vi, Group Shot

Natasha De Alwis (accompanied by Moses)

Natasha and Moses displayed true courage as this was their very first time performing on stage. I think they're really brave; it's certainly no easy task getting on stage in front of a crowd of people staring at you! Hats off to them both for such bravery! And an awesome crowd that night for your support and encouragement!

Natasha started off on a nervous note, but as she progressed through the set, her nerves were more calm as the duo entertained us with their set.

Shaneil Devaser

Dayum. This guy is one to look out for. For reals, people.

Shaneil is from the band The Endleaves, and performs with Riz Rashid, who was one of the talents for The Pulse Project Vol. 2

The Endleaves comprises of Shaneil Devaser on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Riz Rashid on lead guitar and backing vocals, Krist Chong on bass, and Rashaad Ali on drums.

While Shaneil has a good voice projection and vocals, what stood out about his performance was the intensity of his soulfulness. Definite 'layan' factor here, for all you rock and music lovers! You'd need to watch him live to know what I mean; his performance definitely got my full attention. I'd recommend also listening carefully to the lyrics of the songs he plays as they stir your imagination.

Armon, Psytrus, and Adam Izzy (The Pulse Family)

For the last installment of The Pulse Project, Adam Izzy was helping Armon and Psytrus with back-up vocals.
This time around though, he showcased not only his entertaining side with his rather cute antics on stage, but also his surprisingly-talented vocals when he opened their act singing. This guy can really sing!

The trio had a special song lined up to celebrate John Lennon's birthday, which fell on the same day. Their cover of the classic song, Imagine, was executed effortlessly and smoothly.

Never a dull performance with these guys from The Pulse Family. A must-watch act indeed!

Hmmm... I wonder if Adam Izzy will perform again for the next installation? *crossing fingers*

Personally, I'd like to see more installments of The Pulse Project. Not only does this platform showcase the many different talents in the music scene, but it's also been a pleasant surprise for me each time - I never know which type of music I'll be entertained with!

A special thanks to The Pound Bar for being an amazing host in supporting local music and performers. The outlet has opened its door to providing more opportunities for our fellow local artistes.

By the by, since The Pulse Project Vol. 2, Riz Rashid and Brendan de Cruz now perform at The Pound Bar on Wednesdays. Woohoo! Bring the house down, gentlemen! ;)

I'd like to end this Blog post with a special shout out to Laveenia Theertha Pathy, the photographer for the past two events. Her photos capture the moments and soul of the performers. Well done and keep up the good work, Laveenia! :)
