Product Review: Miyami Two-Way Foundation

Hey everyone!

We're all looking for a compact powder or foundation powder that matches our skin tone, looks natural and not cakey, doesn't clog pores, stays on for hours, and is affordable. These days this is asking for a tad much. Almost impossible even, right?

Wrong!

Allow me to introduce you to Miyami Two-Way Foundation, which can be purchased from Cosway

A friend of mine told me about this product, and he swore by it. For privacy reasons, let's call him Adam Lambert (not his real name, of course). See, Adam's a make-up artist (and a freakin' good one too!) and I trust his opinions about these things, so I took his word for it.

Before I show you the photos, let me share with you my reaction when I found it. It's a little lengthy, but it's worth the read. Quite funny even. ;)

So I'm at one of the outlets and I took a look at the product only ONCE. I immediately called Adam on the mobile phone.

Me: "Hallo! What the HECK is this product lah?? It looks like a RM 5 powder that I can find in a bargain store or 'pasar malam', wei!!" ('pasar malam' means night market)

Adam (laughing hysterically): "I know! (laughing again) The packaging looks bad, but the product's REALLY GOOD. Get it!"

Me (hesitating because the packaging looks... ugly): "Errmmm... For real? You sure THIS is the one??"

Adam (laughing uncontrollably now): "YES! You'll love it, woman! JUST GET IT!"

Me: "Okay, okay! Don't get your knickers in a twist. I'll get it now. Thanks. Bye!"

And now, this is what the product looks like:

Do you see what I mean?

Anyhow, I bought one. I went back home. I tried it. Oh my.

Adam was right. It was great and I loved it!

Claims?

  • Silky-smooth combination of foundation and powder
  • Gives a long-lasting, flawless finish
  • SPF15 protects against harmful sunrays

Price?

Each costs about RM 30.00 (it's cheaper when it's on promotional sale)

*     *     *     *     *     *     *

Pros

  • Suitable for sensitive skin I have sensitive skin and I've not had any negative reactions.
  • Contains SPF
  • Sponge is soft and comfortable
  • Looks natural and not cakey Don't go mental and apply layers and layers of it, of course!
  • Doesn't clog pores
  • Can be used as a compact powder when the sponge is dry
  • Can be used as a foundation when the sponge is damp
  • Provides light to medium coverage
  • Does indeed give a long-lasting, flawless finish
  • Pretty good with oil and shine control
  • Inexpensive

Cons

  • Can be purchased only at Cosway outlets (this means that you need to have a Cosway membership or know someone who has it)
  • Packaging looks very cheap
  • Comes in only 3 shades: Light (Code: 5206), Medium (Code: 5207), and Dark (Code: 5208) I use Medium.

Your first impression of it may be like mine was, but don't let the bad packaging stop you from getting it. It's a really good powder. I've recommended it to some of my friends and they're very happy with it!

It was great a couple of years ago when I first tried. And it's still great now. I'd rate it 4 out of 5 stars. It loses 1 star because of 3 reasons: (i) the packaging (ii) you can get it only from Cosway (iii) it comes in limited shades.

If you're a Cosway member, you should get one and give it a go! If you're not a member and you know someone who is, perhaps you could ask them to buy it for you first, then pay them back. Or give them the money to buy it for you.

My advice to you is this: if you are happy with your current powder, then stick with it. However, if you're looking to explore other options, try Miyami!

Have a go and let me know how you find it. If you have a funny story about your first impression of it, I'd love to hear about it! :)

p/s Thank you, Adam Lambert! ;) xoxo

Nails for The Week: Mimes' Traffic Lights

Hey everyone!

This is a look that I tried out on my own for the first time. I didn't mirror an existing image, so if you've seen it before, it's purely coincidental.

I've never been a particularly artistic person. Not as a kid. Not even as an adult. So to me, this is a masterpiece! Yay, me!

I call this look "Mimes' Traffic Lights".

Okay, so mimes are not necessarily colour blind, but they are usually dressed in black and white. I didn't want to call the look "Black and White". Zzzzzzzz... What kind of name is that? That would be just plain boring! :p

Products Used

The Face Shop Base Coat
Shengji Nail Colour in 01 Black
Elianto Nail Colour in 02 White
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

Additional Item Used

Wooden chopstick for the spots (chopsticks like the ones used for Chinese take-away food)

*     *     *     *     *     *     *

I'm beginning to experiment doing my own manicures - it's fun, somewhat therapeutic, keeps me out of trouble most times, and teaches patience! I'll definitely be exploring more! ;)

Product Review: Maybelline Color Tattoo By Eyestudio

Hey everyone!

Dang, it's already Sunday! :( Hope your weekend's treating you well, though! :)

Last week, I went to Watson's in Pavillion to look for a mascara and concealer. While in Watson's, I saw the famous Maybelline Color Tattoo By Eyestudio range. The range consists of cream gel eyeshadows in several beautiful, vibrant, intense colours.

Needless to say, I walked out of the store with my mascara, concealer, and a Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadow in 40 Tenacious Teal.

I've used it once so far for an evening event and my description of it in 3 words? I Love It!

I personally rate this product with 5 stars.

Almost all the colours are shimmery and shiny, and they have these in 8 colours in Malaysia:

Photo taken from http://www.mywomenstuff.com/2013/03/maybelline-color-tattoo-cream-eyeshadow-malaysia/

Price?

RM 19.90 each

Where To Buy?

Any Watson's and Caring Pharmacy outlet.

Maybelline's Claims?
  • Lasts 24 hours
  • The ink technology creates super-saturated colour
  • Cream gel smoothes on for vibrant colour that does not fade

Verdict?

The claims are all TRUE. Except for their mascaras, I've not been an avid fan of Maybelline products. Although, I have to say that these eyeshadows are a real steal for the price!

This eyeshadow is easy to apply and blends well. And the colour I bought... omigosh... it's beautiful, vibrant, stays on for many hours! I had it on ALL night and didn't need to touch up even once!

I applied the eyeshadow using my ring finger - I prefer using my finger than a brush with this eyeshadow. The more you apply, the brighter, more intense and vibrant the colour is. Love these about the product too!

It can be removed quite easily using a facial cleanser. If you usually use a make-up remover, then go ahead and use that first. Then, cleanse your face with a gentle facial cleanser.

*     *     *     *     *     *     *

What are you waiting for? Head out and get these babies! If you like wearing eyeshadows, then you must try them!

I'm definitely going to get a few more! :D

Product Review: Shine Night Cream

Hey everyone!

Have you come across a Facebook page advertising a cream called Shine Night Cream?

Perhaps you may have seen your friends like this page on Facebook?

Several months back, a friend of mine tried this cream and told me about it. She said that since using it, she saw a difference in her skin in just a couple of weeks. I saw the difference in her skin as well: it lightened the marks on her face and she didn't have as many pimples.

I've seen the page before and ignored it because it looked like every other Facebook page selling "miracle" stuff. Besides, I had never heard of it. Since my friend tried it, I thought, "Why not try it out myself?"

Try it, I did.

I've been applying it on my face and neck every night for the past 3 months. Before I tell you what I think about it, though, let me share what this cream claims to do for you.

Benefits?

Renews, refines, and gives a natural glow to the skin. Also, reduces fine lines, evens out discolouration as well as prevents and fades marks and acne.

Ingredients?

Contains natural ingredients such as Vetiver, Mint, and Liquorice, Also uses modern day technological research by experts from Pakistan.

Price?

A Trial Pack/Jar costs RM 30When I used it daily, it lasted me about 2 weeks.
A Non-Trial Jar sets you back RM 170. For me, this can last about 3 months.

*     *     *     *     *     *     *

So now, this is the part where I tell you what I think about the cream.

Pros
  • Need to use only a small amount daily - say, the size of a 5 cent coin.
  • Easy to apply and not greasy. I have combination skin, so this is helpful.
  • Dries fast, and dries to a smooth finish. If you have ever used Hazeline Snow, this cream's texture is similar to it.
  • Does not have a strong scent.
  • Once applied, skin looks a little whitecast. I'm not fussed about this because I'll be sleeping, and not going out.
  • Keeps my skin hydrated. I like this about the cream, especially since I sleep in an air-conditioned room almost every night.
  • Does not have a negative reaction to my skin. This is ultra important to me because I have sensitive skin.
  • Evened out my skin discolouration a little.

Cons
  • The sizes of the trial and non-trial jars are rather small.
  • No packaging for the jars, and no labelling.
  • A bit expensive.

Overall, I like it and I'm happy that I tried it. It's a bit expensive for a small jar, but it can last up to 3 months with daily use. I can't say that I'll stick with this for life, but it's good enough for me for the time being. As a matter of fact, I'll be placing my order for another non-trial jar soon because mine's finishing! In case you're wondering.. no, I'm not getting paid for writing this review. This is my honest feedback.

For more information, search for the "Shine Cream" page on Facebook. There are also other products being sold. You may message them for more enquiries and/or to place your order(s). One of the page Administrators, Komethi, is a pleasant and friendly lady. She'd be happy to answer your questions. You could tell her you read about it on my blog. Tell her I say "Hi!"

If you're trying out the cream too, let me know how it goes. I'd love to hear from you! :)

How To Clean Messy Edges When Doing Manicures

Hey everyone!

This is my chosen look for the week. Yes, it's a little messy around the edges. My manicures are very real - we all can't do perfect manicures all the time now, can we? ;)

After I took the photo, I cleaned the edges using a pointed-tip cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover. Voila! Problem solved! :D

No more messy edges!

DIY Face Mask: Banana, Honey and Lemon

Hey everyone!

Hope your weekend's treating you well so far.

I personally LOVE homemade scrubs and masks simply because they are all natural, effective, and inexpensive. It take only a little time shopping for the items and preparing them, and it's completely worth it!!

Sundays are usually ideal for relaxing - a great day for pampering yourself in the comfort of your home! Here's a homemade mask that you need to try!

Ingredients

1/4 small, ripe banana
1 teaspoon honey
3/4 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps

01. Cleanse your face and neck with a facial cleanser.

02. Cut or tear the banana into small pieces and place them in a bowl. Then, mash the
banana pieces with a metal fork until it turns to mush.

03. Add honey and lemon juice to the banana mush.
(It doesn't matter which goes into the mush first as long as they are both poured in.)

04. Mix the ingredients well until you get a slightly runny consistency.
(You don't want the mixture very runny or it'll drip down your face; you don't want it
very thick either because it'll be difficult to spread on your face.)

05. Make sure your face and neck are dry.

06. Apply the mixture onto your face and neck, making sure to avoid the entire eye area
and hairline. It's best to apply the mask within 10 minutes of mixing it or else it dries
     up and hardens.
(The closer to the hairline you apply the mask, the more difficult it is to remove
because some bits will get stuck in your hair.)

*Note: If you like bananas and honey, you'll be tempted to eat this straight from your
face because it smells yummy. I should know because I did it! *lol*

07. Leave the mask on for about 20 minutes. Once it's completely dry, the mask will
feel like a thin, satin film on your skin.

*Note: You may experience a slight stinging sensation because of the lemon juice - this is normal.
If it feels painful or if the stinging persists and is very uncomfortable, then STOP and
          immediately wash your face.
Also, be mindful if you have any cuts or open wounds on your face because it WILL hurt. Best
to wait until the cut or wound heals.

08. Wash your face with lukewarm/warm/cold water. Then, gently pat your face dry with
      a face towel.

09. Apply your toner (if you use one) and facial moisturiser like you normally would.

*     *     *     *     *     *     *

Results

My face and neck felt like SATIN immediately after - soft and smooth like a baby's bum! My skin felt hydrated and taut. My face looked clean, bright and radiant. I really like it! I'd definitely recommend this mask! :D

Benefits of Bananas, Honey and Lemon Juice

Bananas contain vitamins that are known to improve complexion and even smooth wrinkles when applied directly to the skin. Eating bananas is also a great way to beautify as vitamins C and B6, manganese and water improve your complexion from the inside out.

While bananas help nourish the skin, honey absorbs and retains moisture, hydrating the skin and enhancing your natural glow.

Lemon juice is a natural exfoliator, skin lightener, and brightens your skin. It also helps to reduce the appearance of scars and acne. If you have dark spots, scars, acne or would just like to lighten your complexion, try using lemons.

Why This Mask Is GOOD

•  The ingredients can be easily found in your kitchen. Or grocery store.
•  It's home made, which means that NO chemicals and preservatives are used.
•  It's totally inexpensive, people. Seriously!
•  It's effective. But you must be patient because you'll see long-term results only over the
    course of weeks.

Skin Type

This mask is suitable for all skin types, especially combination or oily skin types because lemon can be a little drying when applied to the skin.

If you have dry skin, try reducing the amount of lemon or simply make the mask without it.

Preparation Time

5 minutes

Frequency

Best to use this mask 2 - 3 times a week. The more frequently you use it, the more apparent you'll see and feel the results.
